We are Bernie and Martin and are a husband and wife team. Bernie was a mental health nurse for over 30 years and Martin a management consultant all his career. We live locally and often talked about taking early retirement and running a coffee house, now we are doing it, albeit a little earlier than expected.

Welcome to The Allotment, we are Bernie and Martin, a husband and wife team. We have a passion for growing and eating our own produce and believe that organic, pesticide free and home-grown is not only healthier, but tastes far better. We like to use our salads and vegetables here in the coffee shop.
When our fruit and vegetables run low, we aim to source from local organic suppliers, notably Greenslate Community Farm, Billinge, who share our values.
Our organic award winning Lancashire cheese is from Leagram Organic Dairy, Chipping and our milk is always organic.
Jams and Chutneys are made in small batches by Reedy’s, who recently won the English Food Produce of the Year Award. Reedy’s source the majority of their ingredients from Lancashire and don’t use artificial ingredients or additives.
Our bread is from All You Knead, an artisan bakery at Haigh Hall Courtyard.
Our eggs are free-range
Coffee is provided by Roberts & Co, which is roasted at Cedar Farm, near Parbold.
Ice Cream is provided by Mrs Dowson’s and is high quality and contains no hidden nasties.
We hope that you enjoy sitting and relaxing at The Allotment and that you are inspired to grow and eat more vegetables.
